Las Vegas, NV – In a time where record-breaking heat waves across the globe are making it impossible to ignore the change in our climate and the impact on frontline workers, listening to the affected communities to implement changes is crucial.

The Nevada Environmental Justice Coalition and Southern Nevada Strong invite residents to the first of many Community Listening Sessions. The purpose of the Listening Sessions is to understand the environmental impacts and perspectives of Nevada residents. Discussion topics will be related to housing costs, transportation, water, and extreme heat.

The data collected will be used to produce a public report of the findings to guide public policy discussions and support future research. The feedback received will also be incorporated in the upcoming update of the Southern Nevada Strong Regional Plan, an effort that promotes environmental justice in land use and transportation decisions across the region. The idea behind the initiative is to use real personal stories of shared experiences in our community to help create an equitable, just, and sustainable future for all Nevadans.

Space is limited! Register to receive the location address. Attendees will receive a $25 gift card for participating. Let your voice be heard by those ready to listen to bring about positive change!

The Plan is our region’s first comprehensive blueprint for building a sustainable community, promoting land use and transportation strategies to realize a higher quality of life for all of our residents. The Plan was developed with extensive input from the public and adopted by Southern Nevada’s local governments in 2015. Southern Nevada Strong has co-led additional community-driven efforts since then, such as the Southern Nevada Extreme Heat Vulnerability Analysis and the Southern Nevada Strong Healthy Food Access Map. The Plan is administered by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada with support from a steering committee made up of more than a dozen local and regional agencies. The forthcoming update will be the first comprehensive update to the Plan since its adoption.
